Making Memories, One Cast at a Time

If You Ain’t Having Fun, You’re Doing It Wrong!

At Mt. Yonder, we believe fly fishing is about more than just catching fish—it’s about the journey, the connection to nature, and the stories you take home. Matthew and Carla Carter founded Mt. Yonder with the belief that fly fishing should be approachable for everyone, we’ve built our guiding philosophy around three simple pillars: fun, easy, and educational.

We don’t just take you fishing—we teach you how to fish. By guiding you in real-world scenarios on public waters, we aim to help you understand what makes a fishery thrive. You’ll leave the water with improved techniques, a deeper appreciation for the environment, and the confidence to take on any stream, river, or lake.

More than anything, we look forward to sharing the joy of fly fishing with you. Whether it’s your first cast or your thousandth, every trip with Mt. Yonder is an opportunity to create lifelong memories, discover new waters, and reconnect with what matters most.

As our business grew, so did our commitment to offering more opportunities for our clients to fish with familiar faces in new and exciting waters. We expanded outward with purpose, ensuring that every new location maintained the same level of expertise, trust, and high-quality experience that defines Mt. Yonder. To achieve this, we’ve strategically built a team of seasoned local guides, each deeply connected to their home fisheries across South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee. These guides bring not only their intimate knowledge of the waters they fish but also the same dedication to service, authenticity, and adventure that our clients have come to expect. Whether exploring the storied rivers of the Appalachians, chasing wild trout in hidden streams, or casting for bass in legendary waters, our expanded team ensures that every trip feels both new and familiar—an unforgettable experience backed by a name you trust.

From the River to Your Doorstep

Mt. Yonder began as a simple guide service with one goal: to share the joy of fly fishing with others. Over time, our customers became family, and they started asking for a way to take a piece of Mt. Yonder home with them. That’s why we launched our line of hats, stickers, and other gear—because we believe the best memories should last long after the trip is over.

But that’s not all. We’re thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of our in-person and online fly shop! Soon, you’ll be able to explore hand-picked flies, tools, and accessories carefully selected to enhance your time on the water. Whether you’re here for a guided trip, a new fly box, or just to browse, Mt. Yonder is growing to meet your needs—without losing sight of the passion that got us here.
